Recommendations for the Offline Call Answer Store
The Modular Messaging telephone user interfaces (TUIs) provide Call
Answer services to callers that cannot reach subscribers. These Call
Answer services allow callers to leave voice or fax messages for
subscribers.
Modular Messaging continues to provide Call Answer services to callers,
even when a message store is cannot be accessed. This feature is referred
to as offline Call Answer. For more information, see Offline Call Answer
on page 5-22.
Further, Modular Messaging provides subscribers emergency access to
these offline Call Answer messages, from the Modular Messaging Aria
TUI.
The messaging application server (MAS) caches all Call Answer
messages that it receives in a local message store. In a multi-MAS voice
mail domain, each MAS migrates copies of Call Answer messages in its
local offline message store to a common repository known as the Offline
Call Answer Store. Hence, the Offline Call Answer Store contains copies
of messages from all MAS units in a voice mail domain.
The Offline Call Answer store acts as a single repository for Call Answer
messages taken for all subscribers in the voice mail domain, in the last ‘x’
number of hours. The value of ‘x’ is 24 by default, but can be changed to
any value from 1 to 99.
The Offline Call Answer Store can reside on any one of the following:
! An MAS
The Offline Call Answer Store can reside on an MAS that has the
capacity to store up to 5,000 hours of GSM-encoded messages
(1,000 hours of G.711-encoded messages). This storage space is
utilized by Call Answer messages in the local store and Call
Answer messages in the Offline Call Answer Store.
Note: In a voice mail domain that has only two MAS units,
the Offline Call Answer store can reside on the same
MAS as the Tracing Server.
! A separate S3400 system that customers can purchase from
Avaya
An S3400 system on which the Modular Messaging software has
not been installed provides up to 10,000 hours of GSM-encoded
messages (2,000 hours of G.711-encoded messages). This
capacity is sufficient to store one copy of Call Answer messages
from every MAS in the voice mail domain. The additional S3400
system must be on the customer’s LAN with Modular
Messaging—Microsoft Exchange and Modular Messaging—
