• Picture playback may become blurred or be interrupted while the TV program received is clear. This
does not mean that the recorded program has been erased. (See figure below.)
Example of playback with dirty video heads
• Dirt accumulated on the head after long periods of use causes this problem. Since this VCR uses an
auto head cleaning system, dirt does not often adhere to the heads.
When it is difficult to remove dirt using the system, head cleaning required highly technical care is
necessary.
• Video heads rotate rapidly and are easily damaged if they contact objects other than video tape. Under
most conditions, they tend to be self cleaning due to contact with the tape. If the video heads become
dirty, the picture will become snowy. Only when the picture becomes snowy and the tracking control has
no effect, should the heads be cleaned.
Head Cleaning Cassettes are available in the marketplace for customer use, but the quality and
effectiveness of these Cleaning Cassettes ranges from satisfactory to poor. Some cleaning cassettes
increase head wear or cause damage to the video heads. Others may become stuck in the machine. We
recommend that head cleaning be performed only by qualified video recorder technicians. Head cleaning
or malfunctions caused by head cleaning is not covered by the Limited Warranty.
Auto Head Cleaning System
This system cleans the video heads automatically when a cassette is inserted, ejected, fast forwarded or
rewound or the power is turned on or off while a cassette is in the VCR, to prevent dirt from accumulating
on the heads.
