5 – New MP3 mode features

Mixing down
Now you can adjust the track levels, pan position,
EQ, etc. of the tracks to the position they should be at
when the mix starts.
NOTE
The inputs are active in this mode. If you are not adding
any material to the recorded tracks at the mix stage,
make sure the input levels are turned down, and that
the input B selector switch is not at the
BUILT IN
position.
1 When you have the settings the way you want
them, press and hold down
PLAY and press
RECORD to start the mixdown process. Move
the faders to set levels, and make any other
changes such as pan, EQ, etc.
2 Press
STOP when you have finished the mix.
The mix is written to card (the
RECORD key
flashes and then goes out) and the display
changes.
Instead of
LASTNAME, the name of the last
MP3 file you mixed to will be shown, of
course.
If you press
EXIT at this point, the MP3 key
flashes green briefly while the display shows
MP3 PLAY mode.
The
MP3 key then lights solid green to show
that you can now play MP3s. If you have
enabled the program play list mode ("Play-
ing back the list" on page 13), you will see
that the MP3 file(s) that you have just cre-
ated from your mixes
3 Press
ENTER to remain in mixdown mode
and record another mix of the same song.
Here, you have the chance to
overwrite the
last MP3 mix that you created, or enter a
new name and make another MP3 file (press-
ing
EXIT takes you to MP3 play mode, as
described below).
4 Press
ENTER to overwrite the last mix, the
wheel alone to select another existing file,
and/or the cursor pad and wheel to edit the
name of the resulting mix file, as if you were
starting the mix from the beginning. Press
EXIT to return to the tracking mode.
TIP
When you are recording many different mixes of the
same material, you can use the cursor pad to move to
the end of the displayed name and simply add a num-
ber, e.g.
MYMIX1
,
MYMIX2
, etc. This is a fast and
easy way of creating unique names.
MP3 recording
To use the Pocketstudio 5 as a stereo MP3 recorder,
follow the steps below.
1 Connect the recording sources (or select the
built-in microphone).
You have the option to set the input mode to
St Pair as described in "Input panning"
on page 17 so that input A is sent to the left
track, and input B is sent to the right track.
2 Select the MP3 file that you will record using
the steps in "Entering Mix to MP3 mode" on
page 9 above.
3 Make sure that all four track faders, along
with the
TG fader, are at their minimum level
(all down).
4 The
MASTER fader should be about 75% up
(as marked on the Pocketstudio 5 itself).
5 Adjust the input levels and start recording
(
RECORD and PLAY).
6 At the end of the recording session, the
recording is written to card. Follow the
instructions from step 2 of "Mixing down"
on page 10 onwards to record other tracks,
etc.
