Error messages
Follow the instructions below if an error message appears in the display.
Message
ACCESS
AVLS

Meaning
Accessing “Memory Stick”.
The volume level exceeds the rated value
while the AVLS is enabled.
• Your Network Walkman cannot play
certain files because of incompatible
formats.
• Transferring has been interrupted
forcefully.
After attaching your Network Walkman to
the recording USB cradle, you have set the
record select switch to “LINE IN.”
Recording failed.
There is audio data which cannot be
recorded by this unit.
Your Network Walkman is connected to
the computer.
A malfunction is detected.
• The song with a playback restriction has
expired.
• The current time has not been set to play
the song with a playback restriction.
• The song is protected by the playback
restriction that is not compatible with
your Network Walkman.
• The file cannot be read.
• The file is not normal.
(During playback)
The inserted “Memory Stick” contains a
file format that is not compatible with your
Network Walkman.
(During recording)
The track you are trying to record contains
a file format that is not compatible with
your Network Walkman.
Remedy
Wait for access to be complete. Do not
remove the “Memory Stick” while accessing.
Turn the volume down or disable the AVLS.
If the file cannot be played, you can erase it
from the “Memory Stick”.
For details, refer to “To delete abnormal data
from a “Memory Stick” or built-in flash
memory” (page 55).
This is not an error. Wait to confirm that you
can start recording.
After checking the connection of the
recording cable, restart recording.
The audio data you are trying to record is not
compatible with this unit.
This is not an error. You can operate your
Network Walkman using the SonicStage
software, but you cannot operate the controls
on your Network Walkman.
Consult your nearest Sony dealer.
• If the current time has not been set yet, set
the current time in the menu mode
(page 34).
• If song cannot be played, you can erase it
from the “Memory Stick”.
For details, refer to “To delete abnormal
data from a “Memory Stick” or built-in
flash memory” (page 55).
• Your Network Walkman does not support
contents with a limited playing count. For
details, refer to “Note on playing songs with
a limited playing count” (page 18).
Erase “FILE ERROR” track. For details, refer
to “To delete abnormal data from a “Memory
Stick” or built-in flash memory” (page 55).
Format a “Memory Stick” following the
procedures on page 44. (Format the “Memory
Stick” on your Network Walkman. If you
format it on another device, you cannot play
the song on your Network Walkman although
transferring are available.)
You cannot record the track because it is not
compatible with your Network Walkman.
