Cisco ICS 7750 System Description

Chapter 4 Summary of System Software Features
Cisco IOS
• Enables ICS System Manager to monitor the SPE and system alarm processor
(SAP) cards and the chassis
• Determines the current status of the SPE on which it is running
The SAP card is responsible for reporting environmental and physical problems
to the FMM. The FMM can detect the following faults:
• Ambient temperature and card temperature above threshold (40ºC)
• Fan failure
• Redundant power supply failure
• Power failure (if a UPS is available)
• Software module failure (such as ICS System Manager)
• Chassis card failure
When an error occurs, the FMM notifies the ICS System Manager.
ICS System Manager then reports problems on the logical layer in the form of
SNMP traps.
FMM can attempt to correct a problem by
• Recovering from hot-swapping any card except the SPE running System
Manager
• Sending syslog messages and updating the shared SPE memory
• Turning on or off the status LED on the SPE
In response to FMM notifications, System Manager can
• Turn on or off the status LED on any card
• Send an e-mail or page alert to an administrator when an alarm condition is
present
