Recording the External Components
—Sound Synchronized Recording
With this recording method, you can start recording
automatically when the source sound comes into this unit
through the LINE IN jacks or the LINE DIGITAL IN
terminal.
Observe the following when recording from external
component through the LINE DIGITAL IN terminal.
• Make sure that it is connected correctly.
• Make sure to turn it on, and leave it turned on while
recording.
• Sound Synchronized Recording will stop automatically if
no sound comes in for more than 30 seconds.
On the unit ONLY:
Before recording, adjust the recording input level if
necessary.
See “To adjust the recording input level” on page 32.

Insert a recordable CD-R or CD-RW on the CDR
disc tray.

Press SOURCE repeatedly until “LINE” appears in
the main display.

Press LINE REC SELECT (inside the sliding panel)
repeatedly to select either “ANALOG IN” or
“DIGITAL IN.”
• ANALOG IN: Select this to record sounds through
the LINE IN jacks. The ANALOG
indicator lights on the display
(analog-to-digital recording).
• DIGITAL IN: Select this to record sounds through
the LINE DIGITAL IN terminal. The
DIGITAL indicator lights on the
display (digital-to-digital recording).

Press REC MODE (inside the sliding panel) to select
“SOUND SYNC. REC?”
• Each time you press the button, Sound Synchronized
Recording turns on and off.

Press REC START (inside the sliding panel).
The REC indicator flashes on the display for a while.

Start playback on the selected external component.
Recording starts automatically when the sound signals
come in.
To confirm the recording contents, see “To change the
display information while recording” on page 32.
To stop recording, press 7. “STOP DUBBING” flashes
for a while.
• Both 3-CD Changer and CD Recorder stop
automatically.
To remove the recorded disc, press 0 CDR.
“FINALIZE ?” flashes in the main display for a while.
• If you do finalize the disc, press FINALIZE.
Remember once you finalize a CD-R, no further
recording can be made on the disc. (For more details, see
“Finalizing a Disc—CD-R/CD-RW” on page 38.)
• If you do not finalize the disc, press 0 CDR again.
If Sound Synchronized Recording do not work
correctly when “ANALOG IN” is selected as the
input terminal
Use the Standard Recording method (see page 31).
Sound Synchronized Recording starts automatically when this unit
detects sound signals coming in. This means that, if sound signal is
too weak for this unit to detect, Sound Synchronized Recording
will not start (or will stop even while the source is being played).
When recording from a DAT deck using Sound
Synchronized Recording
Two track marks may be recorded at the beginning of the
recording. If this occurs, record a skip mark so that either track
mark will be ignored during playback. (See page 42.)
