Powering On the Appliance
You can access the system by connecting anadministrative client to theserial management port
on the controller. Alternatively, if there is aDynamic Host Conguration Protocol (DHCP)
server on the network, you can access thesystem by connecting thenetwork management port
to your network.
Notethat if you are installing a cluster,congure only one controllerinitially. The software
propagates the conguration to the peer controller duringcluster initialization. After thecluster
is initialized, you can administer the system fromeither storage controller. However, do not
attempt initial conguration on both controllers independently. Referto the Cluster
documentation in the System Administration Guide located on

Ifyouare usingan administrativeclient toaccessthe appliance,connect a serialcable fromthe
SERMGT porton theback panel ofthe controllertothe serial porton theadministrativeclient.
UsetheDB9 toRJ45adapter ifnecessary.
Ifyouare usingthe networkto accesstheappliance,connect an Ethernetcable fromthe NET
MGTporton the backpanel of thecontrollerto yournetwork.
Connectan Ethernetcable fromyournetworkto theNET0porton the backpanel of the
controller.
Poweron anydisk shelvesattachedto thestorage systembyplugging thetwopowercords into
theuniversalpowerconnectors,connectingthe cordstothe externalpowersourceand turning
onthe diskshelf powerswitches.Wait severalminutesuntil thepowerindicatorsare lita steady
green.
Connectpowercables topowersupply 0and powersupply1 onthe storagecontroller(s)and
waituntil thePower/OK LED onthe frontpanel next tothe Power buttonlights andremains lit
(approximately twominutes).
Opena terminalwindowor terminalemulator andissue eitherthe telnet or sshcommand,as
follows:
For serial portconcentrator,use rootas theuser name andreplaceserial-concentrator
portnumber with the appropriate value: telnet serial-concentrator portnumber
