Ensure that the temperature in the rack doesnot exceed the controller'smaximum ambient
rated temperatures. Consider the total airow requirements of all equipmentinstalled in the
rack to ensure that the equipment is operatedwithin its specied temperaturerange.

Use one of the following racks for theJ4400 or Sun DiskShelf.
Sun Rack 900/1000 cabinet
Sun Fire cabinet
Sun StorEdge Expansion cabinet
Sun Rack II 1042/1242 cabinet (Sun Disk Shelf-24x3.5"SAS-2 only)
Any 19-inch wide, 4-post, EIA-compatible rack orcabinet with a front-to-backdepth
between vertical cabinet rails of 61 cm to91 cm (24 in.to 36 in.). The cabinet can have
threaded or unthreaded cabinet rails.
Use a rack that meets the following standardsfor the J4500.
Four-post structure (mounting at both front and rear). Note that two-post racks and
two-post racks converted to four-post racks are notcompatible.
Rack horizontal opening and unit vertical pitch conformingto ANSI/EIA 310-D- 1992 or
IEC 60927 standards.
Distance between front and rear mounting planes between23 and 34 inches(580 mm and
870 mm).
Minimum clearance depth(to front cabinet door)in front of frontrack mounting plane:
1.85 inches (47 mm).
Minimum clearance depth(to rear cabinet door)behind front rack mountingplane: 33.5
inches (851 mm) without cable management arm (acable management arm isnot included
or supported with this product). The Sun StorageJ4500 shelf ts bestin 1000 mm racks. Sun
recommends using the Sun Rack 1000-42 and SunRack 1000-38.
Minimum clearance widthbetween the structural supportsand cable troughs: 19inches(483
mm).
Minimum clearance width(not between structural supportsand cable troughs) between
front and rear mounting planes: 18 inches (456mm).
Position the rack next to the rackwhere the controller isinstalled, if separate. Stabilize the
cabinet and lock the casters.
