Wireless Operation
The PMP includes a built-in 802.11b/g wireless network adapter. This
section tells you how to use the features utilizing the wireless adapter.
About Wireless Networks
The PMP supports two basic Wireless network con gurations:
Infrastructure and Ad-Hoc.
Infrastructure Networks
These networks involve the use of a device called a Wireless Access
Point (WAP) or otherwise known as a wireless router. The WAP
provides the ability to connect your PMP to Podcast downloads via an
Internet connection.
A WAP is con gured with an SSID (Service Set Identi er) and possibly
a network key (i.e., a password) used to prevent unauthorized access to
the network. The PMP must be con gured with the appropriate SSIDs
and network keys for each WAP you will be using. See “Con guring
Wireless Access” for more information.
Ad-Hoc Networks
Ad-Hoc networks allow two or more wireless devices to communicate
without the need of a Wireless Access Point (WAP). An Ad-Hoc
network is needed to perform player-to-player sharing
Player-to-Player
One PMP establishes an ad-hoc network allowing another PMP to
join the network and share  les directly from player to player. See the
section “Player to Player Sharing” for more information.
