Wireless Operation
The PMP includes a built-in 802.11b/g wireless network adapter. This
section tells you how to use the features utilizing the wireless adapter.
About Wireless Networks
• The PMP supports two basic Wireless network con gurations:
Infrastructure and Ad-Hoc.
Infrastructure Networks
These networks involve the use of a device called a Wireless Access
Point (WAP) or otherwise known as a wireless router. The WAP
provides the ability to connect your PMP to Podcast downloads via an
Internet connection.
A WAP is con gured with an SSID (Service Set Identi er) and possibly
a network key (i.e., a password) used to prevent unauthorized access to
the network. The PMP must be con gured with the appropriate SSIDs
and network keys for each WAP you will be using. See “Con guring
Wireless Access” for more information.
Ad-Hoc Networks
Ad-Hoc networks allow two or more wireless devices to communicate
without the need of a Wireless Access Point (WAP). An Ad-Hoc
network is needed to perform player-to-player sharing
Player-to-Player
One PMP establishes an ad-hoc network allowing another PMP to
join the network and share les directly from player to player. See the
section “Player to Player Sharing” for more information.
