21.4 The Computer locks-up (freezes operation) or Stops
Problem: The computer locks-up.
Answer: Most likely because you did not use the green ‘safely remove
hardware’ icon in the system tray in order to remove the AV400 from your
computer.
21.5 File issues, corrupted data, formatting, and partitioning
Problem: I want to clean up my AV400’s hard drive, but Windows
®
will
not let me use the standard hard drive cleaning tools.
Answer: This is because Windows
®
sees your AV400 as a Windows
Device and not a hard drive (USB Port is set to Windows Device
in Setup > System). Do not change back to hard drive and run a
defragmenter program.
Problem: On the AV400, I find new file names and folder names that I
never created or they have strange gibberish names.
Answer: (Valid only in USB Port = Hard drive mode) Most likely,
the AV400’s file allocation table (FAT) has been corrupted. This could
have been due to the AV400 shutting down (due to low battery power)
while reading or writing to your computer via the USB connection. To fix
a corrupted FAT problem, you should use the Error Checking utility or the
Check Disk utility explained at the end of this section. Attention: Windows
and Macintosh often write extra files to the hard disk such as finder.def or
System volume info. These are normal and will not harm the AV400.
Problem: Can I defragment the AV400’s hard drive?
Answer: The AV400 maintains an optimised file system and does not need
to be defragmented. Defragmenting will cause unexpected problems.
Problem: I have copied files to my AV400 via USB from my computer, but
now I cannot see these files on the device.
Answer: You have probably transferred a file which the AV400 cannot
play, for example a PDF, MOV, or DOC file. Go to the System Settings
under Setup on the main screen and you will find a parameter called Show
all files. If you set it to on, the AV400 will show all files, even if it cannot
play the file (you must browse via the browser mode from the main menu
screen). The browser will show a ? icon indicating that it is not one of the
standard file types that it can play.
