Safety Notes
All the components we use meet the currently valid Ger-
man and European safety norms and standards. Our
production areas are supervised by highly qualified ex-
pert staff, and all final production units are checked
comprehensively by a fully automated, computer-
controlled system to ensure uniformly high quality. We
guarantee that our products meet our own specifications
to the full.
Please read right through these operating instructions
carefully before you attempt to use your new loudspea-
kers. Note in particular the information regarding setting
up and operating the equipment, and the safety notes.
The loudspeakers must be set up in such a way that
none of the connections can be touched directly (especi-
ally by children). The TCI 2 E and TCI 1 RE must be
connected to a properly earthed mains socket with the
earth terminal connected. The power supply required for
the loudspeakers is printed on the mains supply connec-
tion. The speakers must never be connected to a power
supply which does not meet this specification.
Mains leads must be deployed in such a way that there is
no danger of damage to them (e.g. through persons
treading on them or from furniture). Take particular care
with plugs, distribution panels and connections at the
loudspeakers. Do not exert undue force on the mains
connectors.
Liquid or foreign bodies must never be allowed to get
through the ventilation slots and inside the cabinet.
Mains voltage is present inside the unit, and there is a
risk of lethal electric shock. Protect the speaker from
drips and splashes, and never place flower vases or
other liquid containers on the cabinet.
Like any other electrical apparatus, these loudspeakers
should never be used without proper supervision.
The unit may be damaged by excess voltage in the po-
wer supply, the cable network or in aerial systems, as
may occur during thunderstorms (lightning strikes) or due
to static discharges. If you know that the equipment is
not to be used for a long period, or if you are likely to be
away from home for a while, the speakers should be
disconnected from the mains socket.
The loudspeakers may only be opened by a qualified
technician. Repairs and replacement of any components
may only be carried out by an authorised specialist
service centre. This also applies to fuses and valves.
Apart from the procedures described in these operating
instructions, the user may not carry out any modifications
or work on the speakers of any kind.
If the speakers are damaged, or if you suspect that they
are not working correctly, disconnect them from the
mains power supply immediately and take them to an
authorised specialist service centre for checking.
Special safety notes for the TCI 1 RE
and TCI 2 E models
The electrostatic treble unit employed in the TCI 1 RE
and TCI 2 E models, and the valve output stage of the
TCI 1 RE, operate at very high voltages. All parts car-
rying high voltages are protected using earthed contact
guard grilles. These grilles must never be removed.
Touching any internal parts of the electrostatic driver or
the valve output stage is highly dangerous, as the vol-
tages present are capable of causing death.
You must never push any object through the grilles.
Avoid fluids of any kind getting inside the treble units or
the valve output stage at all costs. However, if foreign
bodies or liquids should get into the treble units or the
valve output stage, disconnect the speaker from the
mains immediately. The speaker must then be checked
by an authorised service centre before being used
again.
The valves used in the TCI 1 RE become hot in use.
Avoid touching the valves and the grilles surrounding
them.
