Setting up the loudspeakers
The exceptional radiation characteristics of these
loudspeakers make their positioning non-critical. If a few
basic rules are observed, the ideal location is easy to
determine.
They should be positioned in such a way that the spea-
kers and the listener form the three points of an appro-
ximately equilateral (equal-sided) triangle.
The listening distance should not be less than 2 metres.
Bearing the triangle arrangement in mind, this means
that the minimum distance between the speakers is
around 2 metres.
The electrostatic treble unit of the TCI 1 RE can be ad-
justed in order to incline it towards your listening position.
To do this rotate the knurled screw on the right behind
the tweeter, adjacent to the treble unit, as shown in the
illustration.
Attention
During the operation of the electrostatic heat is produced
in the interior of the cabinet. Due to this fact
-
The inclination of the electrostatic can only be ad-
justed in cold condition.
-
A touch with the grilles lacated above the valves has
to be avoided.
Please bear in mind that the bass level is increased by
about 3 dB if you position the speakers against a wall,
and by up to 6 dB if you place them in the corner of the
room. To avoid excessive bass response it therefore
makes sense to set up the speakers at least 0.5 metres
from the side walls of the listening room; if at all possible
they should be free-standing, i.e. unobstructed by other
furniture etc. (see „Level adjustment“ section).
Hiding the loudspeakers behind furniture or curtains has
a very marked adverse effect on their treble reproducti-
on.
Position the speakers in such a way that the terminals
cannot be touched when the speakers are operating -
especially by children!
Loudspeaker cabinets should not be positioned immedi-
ately adjacent to television sets, because the magnetic
field generated by the loudspeaker drivers can cause
discoloration in the TV picture.
All TCI series speakers are supplied complete with vari-
ous accessories, and these include spikes and furniture
glides, designed to couple the low-frequency sound
output to the listening room floor. If you are considering
the use of spikes or furniture glides, be sure to read the
following notes:
The points of spikes may damage delicate floor sur-
faces (e.g. parquet flooring or tiles).
The spikes are extremely sharp, and therefore ca-
pable of inflicting injury. Please handle them with the
greatest care, and keep them well away from
children.
When children are playing they tend to be unaware of
danger. For this reason you should either set up your
loudspeakers where children do not usually play, or
provide some means of ensuring that the speakers
cannot topple over.
To fit the spikes or furniture glides, place the loudspea-
ker at its final location, and carefully lay the cabinet on its
side.
Screw the four
spikes into the
threaded holes in
the bottom of the
cabinet as shown
in the illustration.
Screw them in as
far as they will go.
Set the speakers
upright again in the
desired position.
or
First screw the M6
nuts (supplied)
onto the threaded
shank of the furni-
ture glides.
Screw the furniture
glides into the
threaded holes in
the bottom of the
cabinet.
Set the speakers upright again in the desired position.
The furniture glides can be screwed in or out slightly to
compensate for any slight irregularity in the floor. The
glides can then be locked in place at the desired position
by tightening the nuts.
