Appendix D Module Overview and Specifications
Supervisor Engines
On the Catalyst 4503-E and 4506-E switches, you can install the Supervisor Engine in slot 1 only. On
the Catalyst 4507R-E switch, you install the primary supervisor engine in slot 3, and you can install an
optional redundant supervisor engine in slot 4. On the 4510R-E switch, you install the primary
supervisor engine in slot 5, and you can install an optional redundant supervisor engine in slot 6.
The supervisor engines have the following features:
• Data path and control for all network interfaces
• Management functions:
–
Interface monitoring
–
Environmental status
–
SNMP and console/Telnet interface
• Hot-swapping
Note Packets are not forwarded while the module is removed. A system reboot occurs when a
supervisor engine is reinserted.
To install a supervisor engine, follow the procedure in its installation note.
The supervisor engine introduced with Catalyst 4500-E switches is shown in Figure D-1.
