KEF Audio Uni-Q Portable Speaker User Manual

XQ speakers give you all the benefits of
KEF’s best-known innovation: the Uni-Q
®
driver array.
Using aerospace materials to make the
tweeter small enough to
mount in the acoustic
centre of the
bass/midrange cone, so
that both act as single
point source, this
patented configuration
evenly disperses the sound
image over a much larger area
than the conventional ‘sweet spot’.This
means that everyone experiences the same
accurate 3-D sound quality wherever they sit
- and it also gives you far greater freedom of
speaker positioning.
The Uni-Q array in the XQ is the best yet,
with a sophisticated 19mm (
3
/
4”) elliptical
dome tweeter for even more realistic vocals,
and the introduction of a Faraday ring that
boosts output while reducing midrange
distortion to unprecedented levels.
Developed directly from the
Reference Series and time-
aligned with the main array
in its own low diffraction
steel pod, KEF’s new 19mm (
3
/4”)
titanium dome Hypertweeter
TM
has the same
wide dispersion characteristics at ‘super audio’
frequencies.With a flat response to 55kHz
and useful energy up to 80kHz, it effortlessly
outperforms conventional supertweeters and
provides the high frequency
extension you need to take full
advantage of formats like
SACD and DVD Audio.
At lower frequencies,
the story’s the same.
Ports that are radiused
symmetrically inside and
out in order to cut harmonic
distortion and turbulent noise. As a
result, bass response is as open and natural-
sounding as the midrange is accurate.
The technology doesn’t stop there, of course.
High performance audiophile crossovers
improve power handling, with excellent polar
response making transitions virtually inaudible.
The front baffles are trimmed with 6mm thick
machined and anodised aluminium, shaped to
minimises diffraction effects.
Even the cabinets themselves are engineered
for listening pleasure. The walls are curved to
reduce box colorations by spreading the
frequency of any internal standing waves, and
made of 18mm thick laminated MDF - much
stiffer and denser than the standard material.
Massive internal bracing further stiffens the
cabinet walls.
