the power shuts off but will not come back on until you unplug the radio for about 15 mins. and then replug it in and when you polug it back in, the power will stay on for maybe about 30 seconds if lucky or until you press one of the buttons and then it shutrs off again. I have had the radio since it was new and it's still in great condition.
