When I press the power button and play button to s...

When I press the power button and play button to start my ipod...it automatically shuts off after a couple of minutes?? Without touching the Ipod holder, the music will come on periodically at certain times during the day ?? I have misplaced my manual and need to know how to take care of these problems. Thank you
