pc doesn't recognize mp301 plugged into usb port. ...

pc doesn't recognize mp301 plugged into usb port. the mp3 player immediately displays an hourglass. I'm using windows xp sp3. it DOES recognize my older mp3 player model mpc7095. do I need a special software for the mp301 ?
