ipod controls frozen

Hi,

As soon as I connect my 4th generation ipod, all the controls on the ipod are frozen. I cannot change songs, pause, play, etc. If I remove the ipod, it works fine. The problem is that I have to remove the ipod to make any adjustments. I have updated the ipod with the latest firmware. Any ideas how to solve this?
