Picture but no sound on 1 screen, other screen normal

This device has 2 screens so you can have 2 viewers for a single DVD. It was working fine when one day, a zero appeared on one screen and now that screen has no sound, although it still displays a picture. The other screen is fine. We don't have the remote for this system anymore and it seems that many commands were only done thru the remote. I'm wondering if maybe another device accidentally sent an I/R command and triggered the "mute" mode. If so, it would be nice to know if there's a generic remote that can be programmed to work with this dvd player or how to possibly undo this mute mode. I just looked through the manual for this device but it doesn't have any troubleshooting info at all. I'm not sure exactly how to proceed so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
